Why does the project “The Essence of Biocement”, which was awarded “Best of Best” at one&twenty 2023, stand out? And what is the material biocement all about?⠀

→ The seating furniture developed by ju.huhn and friedrich_gerlach is made entirely from self-made biocement. This material does not need to be burned and emits less CO2 because it is produced with the help of a bacterium that breaks down urea and produces lime. The raw material for the project was recycled bricks that were no longer needed on the university’s campus. They achieved the curved contours of their piece of furniture using custom-made shells that they 3D printed – in which the biocement compound hardens.⠀
